Rain City Baby

Day six of new pattern releases. For the first eight days of November we’ll be releasing a new pattern each day. Check back often to see more.

When Krista of Rain City Knits contacted me about yarn support for a pattern, she said she would love to see her yarn in one of my kids’ designs. With such great colours, how could I resist? I knit up a teeny tiny sweater to show her what I was thinking. I think because it was so tiny she was smitten. We decided to offer a baby brother and big sister pair of cardigans: Rain City Baby and Rain City Kid.

Flashes of colour pop in this kimono-style baby cardigan. With contrast-coloured garter stitch seams that are knitted-in, this sweater will be great fun to make and even more fun to wear. Just like Rain City Kid, none of the seams in this sweater are sewn. They are all knit together in a modular fashion.

Originally inspired by an eye-catching cardigan that character, Mike Chang on Glee wore with bands of colour at the seams, this kimono cardigan has evolved into a delightful baby sweater.

So I confessed to a little love affair with Rain City Knits yesterday. In additional to her luscious colours, hand-dyer Krista also introduced me to Bluefaced Leicester yarn. It’s gloriously silky and the sheen and drape are unparalleled. There’s no going back! You too can indulge in Rain City Knits Bluefaced Leicester Superwash DK because Krista is offering 20% off your order to knit this design. The coupon code automatically comes with the Rain City Baby pattern.

I love these patterns! I’m a big fan of Krista’s yarns and colourways, and I think the different combinations these sweater patterns make possible would all be awesome! Love the modular seams and garter stitch touches, too.

Any chance of a similarly styled cardigan for adults? I’d love a neon Rain City cardigan of my own! :)
