What a great vest to wear over a shirt! Using strands taken from the self-patterning yarn, the squares of colour on the back echo the stripes on the front to great effect. Because it’s sleeveless, it’s really built for action!

Construction

Worked bottom up in pieces and seamed together. Shoulders are joined with three-needle bind off. Stitches are picked up around the armholes and front edges to create an edging. Buttons may be place either on the right or left front.

Finished chest circumference: 21 (24, 26, 29 ½)” / 53.5 (61, 66, 75) cm.
Back length: 10 (12, 13 ¾, 15)” / 25.5 (30.5, 35, 38) cm.
Designed for a roomy fit with 2 to 8″ (5 to 20 cm) positive ease, with more ease for larger sizes. Shown in 2-3 years.

Substitution Notes

Choose a fingering weight/4-ply yarn with easy care instructions. Superwash wool and sock yarns (whether wool or cotton blends) will work wonderfully. The self-patterning yarn may be substituted with a solid colour, a variegated yarn or a gradient yarn.

Gauge

30 sts and 42 rows to 4” (10cm) over stocking stitch using larger needles.

2.5 mm (US 1 ½) Circular Needle, 32” (80 cm) long;
