A v-neck pullover using the modular knitting technique is perfect for the knitter who enjoys a challenge. With no seams and sleeves which are knit top down finishing is a breeze! Create a more feminine version by adding a delicate picot edging.

Construction

Strips of garter stitch, no wider than 26 sts are worked from bottom up. Each strip is attached to the adjacent strip as it’s worked, with the final strip joining along both edges to make a cylinder. Shoulders are joined with three-needle bind off. Sleeves are picked up around the armhole and worked top down with a small amount of short rows for the cap. Stitches are picked up around the hem and neckline to work the garter stitch edging.

Shown in discontinued sock yarns (75% wool, 25% nylon; 229 yd /210 m per 50 g).

Substitution Notes

Any self-patterning sock weight or fingering yarn paired with a coordinating solid-coloured yarn may be used. Choose a yarn with easy care instructions. Superwash wool and sock yarns (whether wool or cotton blends) will work wonderfully. The self-patterning yarn may be substituted with a solid colour, a variegated yarn or a gradient yarn.

Gauge

30 sts and 42 rows to 4” (10 cm) over stocking stitch using larger needles.

2.5 & 3 mm (US 1 & 2) Circular Needles, 16” (40 cm) long;
2.5 & 3 mm (US 1 & 2) Double-Pointed Needles;
