Ruby Supports the Alzheimer Society
Ruby,
our hoodie design, is named after my grandmother
who suffered from Alzheimer's disease. In memory
of Ruby Facey, a portion of the online sales of
Ruby are donated to the Alzheimer
Society of BC. We're proud to announce that
we've topped up our most recent donation to a
total of $100. Thank you for your support in buying
my patterns. It helps me "pay it forward"
in support of Alzheimer's research, education
and support services.
Knitting the Camino
Fundraising for Alzheimer's disease is close
to the heart for my family. My step-father, Nigel,
is raising money through his new blog, Knitting
the Camino. Nigel flew to Europe yesterday
to walk the historic pilgrimage through northern
Spain. With his knitting needles in hand and 800
km (500 miles) put on his handknit socks, Nigel
will reach his destination, Santiago de Compostela
about 35 days later. Join me in following his
journey with his knitting projects, through the
scenic mountains and plains of Spain, and support
this worthy cause.
Victoria FibreFest 2009

Knit-Out
As part of the Victoria
FibreFest festivities, we're looking forward
to participating in the Knit-Out again this year
on Sunday, June 21st. Mark your calendar and be
sure to drop by our tent to say hello. We'll be
offering another free draw for a Holli Yeoh kit.
The Knit-Out is located in Saxe
Point Park in Esquimalt and the hours are
10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Knitting Workshops
The Victoria FibreFest events include a number
of classes. I'm teaching two workshops on Saturday,
June 20th and they will be held at Boutique de
Laine in Oak Bay.
Interested
in Intarsia? (9 a.m. to noon)
Tackle the intricacies of intarsia to add blocks
and motifs of colour to your knitting. You'll
learn all the basics including joining colours,
avoiding holes, managing all those ends and tangles,
and reading graphs. We'll also cover tension issues.
There is nothing to fear and by the end of the
workshop, you'll have the confidence to work with
colour.
Modular
Magic (1 to 4 p.m.)
Knit a cell phone or iPod cozy in three modular
strips using self-patterning sock yarn. Have fun
watching the stripes in the yarn appear as you
learn to join your strips together on both edges
of this seamless project. Skills learned in this
class can be applied to larger projects.
For more details and to register for the classes,
go to the Victoria
FibreFest website.
